Suggested Wording For Your Will

If your client is passionate about animals and is asking you about including a gift for an animal charity in their Will, RSPCA Victoria is one of Australia’s leading and most trusted animal charities.

For the past 150 years, RSPCA Victoria has been a champion for animals in need. We provide the most comprehensive range of animal welfare services and programs in the state. We protect animals from cruelty and neglect through our Inspectorate. We care for them in our shelters, veterinary clinics, foster care and behaviour rehabilitation programs. We find them new homes through our adoption and rescue partner programs. We work to prevent cruelty through our education, community outreach and advocacy programs. And we ensure the community can connect with and support us through our social enterprise work.

Through a gift in their Will to RSPCA Victoria your client will have a significant and positive impact on the lives of animals.

For solicitors and Will writers

Including a gift in their Will is a very thoughtful and wonderful way for your client to let their love for animals live on. Your client will join many other Victorians who have made the same compassionate decision to be part of our vision to end cruelty to all animals.

If you’re helping someone to include a gift to RSPCA Victoria in their Will, our suggested wording is below:

“I give to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Victoria) (“RSPCA”) of 3 Burwood Hwy, Burwood East, Victoria, 3151 (ABN 56 749 449 191):

(b) the residue of my estate; OR
(c) % of the residue of my estate; OR

for the general purposes of the RSPCA. I declare the receipt of the RSPCA will be sufficient discharge for my Trustees.”

If you’re helping someone to include instructions in their Will for RSPCA Victoria to take care of their pet, our pet legacy service, Home Ever After, may be an option for you to discuss with them. Registering their pets in our Home Ever After program when considering or making their Will, will ensure RSPCA Victoria has all the information needed about their beloved pets to match them with the most suitable loving, new home. Our suggested wording is below:

“Regarding the future care of my pets, at the time of my passing should there be no member of my family or any of my friends to properly care for my surviving pets, I direct that my Executor give my surviving pets to The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Victoria) (“RSPCA”) on the condition that my pets be found loving new homes under RSPCA Victoria’s pet legacy service, or other equivalent program or policy in place from time to time. I further direct my Executor to arrange for the transportation of my surviving pets from their current residence to an agreed RSPCA site.”
