Bake a difference and fight animal cruelty this Cupcake Day

Published on 2 August 2022

RSPCA Victoria is encouraging animal lovers to get creative in the kitchen this August for its tastiest annual fundraiser, Cupcake Day.

Slices, quiches, cakes and biscuits will be welcomed in offices, schools and homes across the state as Victorians join the fight against animal cruelty by hosting their own event. And for the baking hesitant, you can still support the cause by picking up a pupcake from Ferguson Plarre, with $1 from every pupcake sold donated to RSPCA Victoria throughout August.

Ferguson Plarre’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Plarre said the company has proudly signed on as major Victorian sponsor for Cupcake Day for the third year in a row.

“We’ve really enjoyed making every pupcake count for RSPCA,” Steve said.

“As the proud owner of two cats and two dogs, I’m delighted that Ferguson Plarre continues to support the RSPCA’s annual Cupcake day.

“To know that every Pupcake sold during August will help bake the world a sweeter place for all creatures great and small is a wonderful feeling and we know it’s a cause that resonates with our customers.”

Participants can host their own Cupcake Day any time that suits them in August, with RSPCA Victoria hoping to raise $65,000 to help care for the 14,000 animals that enter its shelters every year.

RSPCA Victoria CEO, Dr Liz Walker, said Cupcake Day is a much-anticipated annual event that brings people together to celebrate and support the RSPCA’s work protecting and caring for animals.

“Whether you’re an amateur baker or a self-professed master-chef, Cupcake Day is a time to share good food with your family, friends and colleagues, knowing that every bite will make a difference to the lives of our most vulnerable animals,” said Dr Walker.

“90% of our work is funded by the community. Cupcake Day proceeds are vital for helping us care for our shelter animals, investigate reports of cruelty and fund community education and outreach programs to improve animal welfare.

Everyone who registers for RSPCA’s Cupcake Day has the option to receive a party pack, which includes posters, a host guide and donation box, making it super-easy to host a fun event.

How RSPCA Cupcake Day donations can make a difference:

·       $35 could provide heat pads, blankets and bedding needed to keep a puppy warm and snuggly

·       $57 could provide one week of vital antibiotics for an animal recovering from an emergency surgery

·       $150 can help desex an abandoned puppy, so they’re ready to find their forever home

·       $350 can help keep an RSPCA inspector on the road fighting animal cruelty for another day
