Australia’s premier event on the canine calendar is back, with around 10,000 people and their dogs set to walk together for RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk next month on Sunday 22 May.
Victorians keen to hit the pavement with their pooches can currently take advantage of an early bird special, with 20% off the registration fee for those who sign up to a Million Paws Walk event before 26 April.
RSPCA Victoria CEO, Dr Liz Walker, said the organisation is excited to be welcoming people back to Albert Park Lake, as well as to events across the state, with all funds raised going to the thousands of animals in need who come through RSPCA doors each year.
“We know people love their pets and that they make people’s lives better. There is nothing better for people or their dogs than getting out for a walk. At Million Paws Walk, people are not only doing something good for themselves and their dogs, but they are also helping to make life better for other animals,” Dr Walker said.
“Our fundraising target in Victoria is $360,000, with every single dollar raised through Million Paws Walk, including entry fees, merchandise sales and online fundraising, helping fund RSPCA’s critical work for vulnerable animals.”
Million Paws Walk events are running across the state in metro and regional locations:
- Albert Park Lake – Pelican Lawn, Albert Park Lake, Albert Park
- Bendigo – Lake Weeroona, Napier Street, Bendigo
- Eildon – Riverside Drive, Eildon Pondage, Eildon
- Geelong – Eastern Park Circuit, Geelong Botanic Gardens
- Hamilton – Lake Hamilton Adventure Park, Hamilton
- Mansfield – Mansfield Botanic Park, Corner High Street and Whitfield Road, Mansfield
- Mornington Peninsula – Fred Smith Reserve, Marine Parade, Hastings
- Traralgon – Agnes Brereton Reserve, Breed St, Traralgon
- Wangaratta – Kennel & Obedience Dog Club, Wangaratta Showgrounds
Attendees at Melbourne’s flagship walk at Albert Park Lake will enjoy live entertainment, food trucks, veterinary advice, dog washes and fun exhibits, along with dog competitions, such as Best Rescue Story, and can win prizes on the day.
Alongside the traditional Million Paws Walk at Albert Park Lake and regional locations, RSPCA will be running the virtual challenge, Walk This May, for anyone who cannot attend a physical event. Walk This May encourages participants to walk with their furry friend everyday throughout the month of May, while raising funds from their community.
“There’s no better feeling than seeing your dog’s tail wagging ready for a walk and you’ll love taking your best friend out to raise funds for an important cause. Plus, you’ll be increasing your step count and getting active at the same time!” said Dr Walker.
