Supporting local communities

Our community outreach programs

RSPCA Victoria’s Outreach programs aim to make preventative veterinary care and support more accessible for community members and their pets. Our goal is to improve animal welfare in the community and deliver positive outcomes, both for people and their pets by maintaining and strengthening the human-animal bond.

Peninsula Pet Net Programs

We’re working in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne to prevent animal cruelty before it begins by providing low-cost and means-tested services, along with education, and emergency support. The program aims to build empathy, change behaviours, improve human and animal health while providing a safety net for pets in the region. Learn more about our Peninsula Pet Net Program

Completed projects

Mildura Loves Pets

The Mildura Loves Pets program launched in July 2021 and concluded in April 2023.

This initiative aimed to support pet owners in the Mildura region to improve the welfare of their animals. A dedicated Community Liaison Officer was placed in the Mildura community with support from a team of passionate Inspectors in the region.

We are proud to announce that over 3,500 dog and cats were vaccinated during the duration of the project. In addition to this – over 800 dogs and cats were desexed. We would like to thank the Mildura community for their generous support during this time.

Goals of the Mildura Loves Pets program

Increase awareness about the deadly nature of parvovirus and how it can be easily prevented with vaccinations. Protect animals from illness and death through the provision of free vaccinations at community events or through supplying vaccination vouchers to dog owners Facilitate education sessions for primary schools and human services agencies to create an improved understanding of good animal welfare and how it can be achieved.

Mildura Loves Pets was made possible by a generous bequest from local resident and animal enthusiast, the late Joyce Wells. The MLP initiative honours her love and respect for animals by enhancing the welfare of pets living in the Mildura community.
