Clear the shelters: adoption fees reduced on pets of all shapes and sizes

Published on 5 July 2023

RSPCA Victoria is aiming to clear the shelters with a special school holiday event for three days only (Thursday 6 – Saturday 8 July) with adoption fees significantly reduced on nearly 200 animals.

RSPCA’s Head of Operations, Tanya Drakopoulos, said the influx of animals over the last few weeks means more loving homes and families are needed right now.

“It’s unusual for us to have this many dogs and puppies at one time, with many different breeds and crosses waiting to find their forever family,” Ms Drakopoulos said.

“All animals adopted through RSPCA are already desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, and health and behaviour checked, which saves you hundreds of dollars.

“Pets make our lives better, and right now we have more than 200 dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits, and guinea pigs ready for adoption.”

Adoption fees have been significantly reduced for three days only to encourage people to come and find their pawfect match:
• $199 for all puppies and adult dogs
• $50 for all kittens and cats
• Choose your own adoption fee for small animals (rabbits and guinea pigs)
• All senior animals are free to adopt

“When you adopt your pet from RSPCA our adoption process ensures we match you and your family with the right pet for your lifestyle and needs,” Ms Drakopoulos said.

“If you need more reasons, the school holidays are a great time to settle a new pet into the home.

“Pets belong in loving homes, not shelters, and we hope Victorians will help us clear the shelters this weekend.”
