Across the state, animal shelters are on a mission to get as many of these animals as possible out of shelters and into their forever homes – welcome to Mission Adoptable!
For three days only, Friday 21 – Sunday 23 February, RSPCA Victoria, along with eight other shelters, are reducing adoption fees to help find forever homes for the nearly 600 animals currently available for adoption across the state.
By adding a new furry friend to your family, you’re helping us focus on caring for the animals who are not ready for adoption, in addition to making space for animals coming into our care at any given moment from the community.

Normal adoption procedures for each participating shelter will apply to ensure each animal is matched with the right family.
Animals adopted from participating shelters are behaviour-checked, microchipped, vaccinated and desexed.
Animals such as birds and horses are not included in Mission Adoptable.
Animals who are normally $20 or less to adopt, will remain at their usual lower price during this promotion.
FAQs
How much are the animals during the promotional period?
The reduced adoption fees for animals during Mission Adoptable will be $50 for all cats, dogs, kittens and puppies and $20 for small animals, such as rabbits and guinea pigs.
All reduced adoption fees will be the same across participating organisations.
Other animals, such as birds or horses, are not included in the Mission Adoptable promotion.
Why are the animals being offered at a reduced adoption fee?
We know offering discounts encourages people to welcome one of the amazing animals available into a loving home.
Normal adoption procedures apply, so even though the adoption fee is discounted, the same time and effort goes into matching each animal to the right family.
Do I still need to pay for vaccinations and desexing?
Animals adopted from participating shelters are behaviour-checked, microchipped, vaccinated and desexed.
If I find an animal I want to adopt before the promotion starts, can I put them on hold and still get the discounted rate?
Unfortunately, no. The reduced adoption rate is only available from Friday 21 February to Sunday 23 February, and we are unable to extend the discounted adoption price outside of the set dates listed above.
Why isn’t the adoption price like this all the time?
While we’d love to keep our adoption fees this low all the time, it just isn’t possible; even when adoption fees are full price, we lose money.
The adoption fees charged by RSPCA Victoria and participating shelters help cover the costs associated with caring for and preparing each animal for adoption, including the food, treats, water, shelter, any necessary veterinary treatment and care provided for them until they are ready to find their forever homes.
