Dogs are the most common pet to train, and they’re usually very excited and willing to learn. However, it can sometimes be tricky to communicate what you want from your pooch, and training can be frustrating or slow. Positive reinforcement training is recommended by RSPCA Victoria as the best way to teach your dog what is expected of them.
Training services
Positive reinforcement training (PRT)
PRT is all about rewarding the behaviour you want to see in your pet. Rewards can be attention, food or toys, so long as it’s something your pet is motivated by. When your pet performs a behaviour you want, give a reward. Over time the behaviour becomes second nature and you no longer need to keep reinforcing with treats.
Animal management training
RSPCA Victoria offers animal management training for animal management officers (AMOs). With interactive hands-on learning and real-life scenarios, this training program is delivered by RSPCA Victoria experts and supports the training requirements in Council Domestic Animal Management Plans (a provision of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 section 68A).
