2024 Racing Victoria Review

Since 2010, the Racing Victoria Jumps Review Panel has reviewed the jumps racing season every year. The results of these reviews have never been made public.

Following the end of the 2024 season, Racing Victoria admitted the season’s safety record was ‘unacceptable’, and announced a more in-depth review would be conducted, “with no outcome off the table”.

We successfully advocated for the 2024 review to have some independent oversight, with a chance for the Racing Integrity Commissioner to provide recommendations.

We made a formal submission to the review and met with industry directly to advocate for the end of this dangerous activity.

Our submission recommended:

  1. Racing Victoria must cease holding jumps races
  2. The Victoria Government legislates a ban on jumps racing
  3. Require immediate action to address the significant and ongoing issues with transparency and accountability across the thoroughbred racing industry

We also found the scale of jumps racing had dropped drastically from historical level, with only 7 Victorian racetracks holding them.
