Claws for Celebration: Safe Cat, Safe Wildlife Hits Local Libraries

Published on 15 May 2026

RSPCA Victoria, Zoos Victoria, and Public Libraries Victoria are partnering this May to support cat owners to keep their cats safe and happy at home.

Public libraries across Victoria will be sharing resources from the Safe Cat, Safe Wildlife initiative for community members to learn more about how to care for their pet cat’s health and wellbeing.

Every library will be offering something unique to participate in, from cat-themed story time to learning more about cat behaviour and local wildlife from expert speakers, with take-home items such as bookmarks, colouring sheets and catnip available.

RSPCA Victoria CEO Dr Liz Walker expressed her excitement for the campaign to be discovered by new people.

“Our partnership with Zoos Victoria to bring Safe Cat, Safe Wildlife to life is something we are really proud of,” Dr Walker said.

“To now have Public Libraries Victoria help us share our knowledge of how to provide a safe and enriching environment for cats at home is a wonderful opportunity to reach even more pet owners.

“We know how much love and happiness our pets bring to our lives, so it’s important owners have access to information to provide the care their cats need.”

Zoos Victoria Acting CEO Dr Mark Pilgrim OBE said the program not only helped domestic animals, but local wildlife as well.

“Zoos Victoria is proud to partner with RSPCA Victoria to roll this campaign out across Victoria’s public libraries,” Dr Pilgrim said.

“Safe Cats, Safe Wildlife is a simple, powerful way for every pet owner to keep their cat happy and safe whilst helping protect Australia’s unique biodiversity.”

Public Libraries Victoria CEO Dr Angela Savage was happy to partner with such a good cause.

“Librarians love cats and so do our communities,” Dr Angela Savage said.

“Safe Cat, Safe Wildlife is a wonderful opportunity for public libraries to keep communities informed on how best to care for cats in ways that keep our wildlife safe, too.”
