RSPCA Victoria welcomes new Minister for Agriculture, the Honourable Michaela Settle, and looks forward to working with her on animal welfare issues in Victoria.
RSPCA Victoria CEO Dr Liz Walker said she was excited to meet with Minister Settle and discuss the future of animal welfare in the state.
“Victorians love their animals and we all want to ensure they live good lives,” Dr Walker said.
“We welcome the opportunity to work with Minister Settle on these important matters and building a better future for Victoria’s animals, together.”
RSPCA Victoria would also like to thank outgoing Minister for Agriculture Ros Spence for her support in developing an effective cat management strategy and progressing the draft Animal Care and Protection Bill.
“We are very appreciative of the time Minister Spence dedicated to supporting animal welfare in Victoria and the passion she showed through her work,” Dr Walker added.
“Victoria’s animals have benefited from her support over the past two and a half years, including the introduction of the new Victorian Cat Management Strategy and the development of new draft legislation to replace the outdated Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1986).”
Victoria’s state election this year comes at a critical time as ongoing cost-of-living issues continue to impact the welfare of Victoria’s pets.
RSPCA Victoria Inspectors are busier than ever as they investigate over ten thousand reports of annual cruelty every year, and RSPCA Victoria looks forward to working on these issues together with Minister Settle.
