As part of RSPCA Victoria’s Peninsula Pet Net Program, some opportunities exist for RSPCA educators to visit schools and community groups in the south east suburbs of Melbourne located within the municipalities of Casey, Cardinia, Frankston and Greater Dandenong.
Our experienced educators bring curriculum linked and immersive lessons right into your classroom.

Primary excursions
Bring your class to RSPCA Victoria’s Education Centre and barn situated at Burwood East for an excursion experience that children are sure to remember!
Studies on human-animal interactions show that animals have the potential to promote healthy emotional development in children in many ways, including alleviating stress and providing emotional support for feelings of sadness and anger.
Our programs are tailored to different age groups and learning requirements.
Prep to grade two
Animals like you and me!
Your class will meet a variety of pet and farm animals and make connections about the connections and similarities we share with animals. This session helps children build empathy and compassion and helps children build connections with the creatures we share the earth with, whilst learning about animal care and welfare.
Excursion information
Topics explored include:
- The basic needs of animals and how they relate to those of humans
- The role of RSPCA Victoria in the community
- Animal experiences
Onsite activities include:
- Meet and feed our gorgeous guinea pigs and discover the needs of these popular pets
- Visit our on-site barn and hear the rescue stories of the resident farm animals
- Compare their needs to those of pets and humans
- Participate in our interactive Pet Needs game to deepen understandings of responsible pet guardianship
Teachers also receive a resource kit for further topic exploration back at school!
Grades three to six
RSPCA, the Community and You
Bring your class to RSPCA Victoria’s Education Centre and barn in Burwood East for an excursion to remember.
Take a deep dive into the important role the community plays in helping RSPCA Victoria to care for more than 15,000 animals each year and learn about animal needs and welfare. Your class will meet a variety of pet and farm animals and make connections about the needs we all share.
Excursion information
Topics explored include:
- The basic needs of animals how they relate to those of humans
- The role of RSPCA Victoria in the community
- Relevant laws that are in place to protect pet animals and farm animals
- Animal experiences
Onsite activities include:
- Visit our barn and hear the rescue stories of the resident farm animals. Compare their needs to those of pets and humans.
- Tour the RSPCA Adoption Centre at Burwood East
- Discover the important role of RSPCA Inspectors and the laws they enforce to help animals in the community
- Investigate real animal rescue case studies in small groups to determine how each animal’s welfare could be improved
- Ask us about including a presentation from an RSPCA Inspector
