One hundred reasons to adopt a pet during first RSPCA National Pet Adoption Month

Published on 2 March 2026

National Pet Adoption Month runs throughout March, and in 2026 there are more reasons than ever to adopt a cat or dog, with the RSPCA’s official nutritional partner, Royal Canin, contributing $100 for every cat or dog adopted from an RSPCA location.

By adopting a cat or dog, Australians will also be helping improve the lives of countless others.

“With hundreds of cats and dogs available for adoption around the Australia, March is a wonderful time to make a new friend, improve animal welfare outcomes nationally, and help animals across the country move into the safe and loving home they deserve,” RSPCA Victoria CEO Dr Liz Walker said.

“There are many reasons to adopt a pet, and in March the number climbs to 100 thanks to our partnership with Royal Canin.

“Animals make our lives better and we have so many amazing animals in our care waiting to be adopted.”

Each year Royal Canin provides 288 tonnes of high-quality pet food to nourish the animals in RSPCA shelters while they await adoption.

All adopted cats and dogs go home already desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, Bravecto flea and tick protected and with a bag of Royal Canin dry food, and in March Royal Canin is taking this one step further, also contributing $100 to the RSPCA up to the value of $200,000.

Managing Director of Royal Canin ANZ, Jeremy Sassoon said the company was proud to donate $100 for every adoption in March, on top of the thousands of cats and dogs already being feed science-backed nutrition.

“Every adoption is a story of hope,” Mr Sassoon said.

“By supporting RSPCA, Royal Canin is helping to turn these stories into reality, ensuring adopted pets go home not only with a loving family, but also with the nutrition they need to thrive.

“There are hundreds of reasons to consider adopting a new pet.

“One of my top reasons is the daily adventures and fun our dog brings into our home.

“If you have been thinking about bringing a new pet into your lives, now is a great time.”
