One day, double the impact for animals in need

Published on 1 October 2025

RSPCA’s annual ‘Give to Get Them Home’ fundraiser is on again this Thursday, 2 October.

For one day only, animal lovers across the state can double their impact with every dollar matched by generous sponsors.

Funds raised will go towards rescuing animals from cruelty and neglect, providing life-saving veterinary treatment and all the care they need before helping them find their forever home.

RSPCA Victoria’s CEO, Dr Liz Walker, said support from the Victorian community was essential to meet the increasing cost of care for animals.

“Victorians are amazing supporters of animal welfare and we’re so grateful for their support,” Dr Walker said.

“Every year, our team provides essential and sometimes complex veterinary care to thousands of animals in need.

“RSPCA Inspectors investigate over 10,200 reports of animal cruelty throughout Victoria every year, and deal with truly shocking cases of animal cruelty, including complex cases of animal neglect and hoarding.”

A cat or dog arriving at RSPCA Victoria through the Inspectorate will spend an average of 34 days and 61 days, respectively, in care.

“The cost of caring for the thousands of animals coming through our doors is getting higher every year, and providing this care is only possible because of these generous donations,” Dr Walker added.

“Across the entire length of a cat or dog’s time at RSPCA Victoria, we provide food, water, shelter, veterinary care, behavioural training and enrichment at an average cost of nearly $70 per day, per animal.

“This one day is an incredible opportunity for anyone who cares about animals to make a significant difference and have their donation go further than ever before.

“With your help, we are able to provide vital care, shelter, and medical treatment to the animals in need across Victoria and help prevent cruelty to animals.”

In 2024 over $1 million was raised, with RSPCA Victoria hoping to exceed that amount this year thanks to the support of corporate sponsors and the Victorian community.

These funds provide animals at RSPCA Victoria with vital care, including food and water, shelter, vaccinations, and medical treatment, as well as funding the work that goes into finding their new home.

All donations on Thursday, 2 October will be doubled thanks to donation matching sponsors, including our friends at Royal Canin, Peter Alexander, Bravecto, Happy Bubbles, FTI Consulting, Hush Puppies, EAC Animal Care, BIVCORP and some exceptionally generous individuals

‘Give to Get Them Home’ over the years

First launched in Victoria in 2018, Give to Get Them Home drew unprecedented public support, raising $618,000 dollars in one day that first year. Now held nationally, Give to Get Them Home forms part of RSPCA’s annual fundraising calendar.

In 2023 over $900,000 was raised, exceeding the $760,000 in 2022, all thanks to the support of corporate sponsors and the Victorian community.

These funds provide animals at RSPCA with vital care including food and water, shelter, vaccinations, and medical treatment, as well as funding the work that goes into finding their new home.
