Entries are now OPEN for the De-Sexy Snippets short film competition!

We want filmmakers to send us their ideas for a 30 second short film on the topic of cat desexing.

Paws that…a film about cat desexing?!

Why cat desexing? The overpopulation of cats is a huge welfare issue for RSPCA Victoria. We need to spread the message that cat owners should desex their animals to ensure less cute kitties end up unwanted, on the streets and in animal shelters.

Ok, how does it work?

We’re looking for creative ideas to tackle this de-sexy topic! We’ll shortlist the entrants with our three favourite ideas – they will each receive $5000 to make their short film. Later this year these three short films will appear on the Melbourne Queer Film Festival website and Facebook page where the public will vote for their favourite. The creator of the most popular film will receive another $5000 in prize money!

RSPCA Victoria will use the winning film across various platforms to help spread the message that cat desexing is cool. So, we’re looking for fun, creative ideas that will “cut through” and engage the broader public and get them de-sexin’.

What’s next pussycat?

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Send your concept to mqff@rspcavic.org.au
  • Your concept must be for a film that runs no longer than 30 seconds
  • Your concept should be no more than one Word Document page
  • You must be able to make your film for $5000 if you are selected in the top three (or cover the additional costs yourself!)
  • Please include a budget detailing how you intend to spend the $5,000 grant to produce the film.
  • A signed consent form must be included with each entry.
  • Your film must be family friendly. Nothing higher than an M rating, please!
  • The film concept can be any format (i.e. film, animation, stop motion).

RSPCA Victoria and our partners will be promoting the top three films. That means your work will be broadcast to not just the MQFF viewer community, but to all our supporters, business partners and more.
