Community rallies to support RSPCA horses
Published on 8 August 2025
RSPCA Victoria is incredibly grateful for the community’s response after Inspectors seized 26 horses from a Shepparton property last week.
Nearly all the horses have since been adopted by members of the community, while the remaining horses all have pre-adoption meet’n’greets scheduled with their prospective owners.
Inspectors attended the Shepparton property last week after receiving an animal cruelty report from a member of the public and found the animals to be at immediate risk.
RSPCA Victoria Head of Operations, Tanya Drakopoulos, said they were delighted and grateful for the community’s support.
“These horses arrived in our care in very poor condition, and it will be an extensive recovery process for many of them,” Ms Drakopoulos said.
“Despite knowing all this, we’re delighted to have had such a positive response from the horse community, with many experienced horse owners offering to adopt these animals and nurse them back to health.”
Anyone interested in adopting an animal from the RSPCA can view animal profiles at rspcavic.org/adopt-a-pet.
Anyone with concerns about the welfare of animals is urged to make a report to RSPCA Victoria at rspcavic.org/who-to-call/ or by calling 03 9224 2222.
It’s estimated it will cost RSPCA Victoria more than $12.8 million to operate the Inspectorate this financial year.
