Sharing our lives with a pet should be an enriching and rewarding experience. However, we understand that owning an animal with serious unwanted behaviour can cause mental and emotional stress to you and the entire family.
Here at RSPCA Victoria, our qualified, skilled and experienced Veterinary Behaviourist works hand in hand with you to understand your pet in a rewarding and proven way. You will develop a greater understanding and deeper appreciation of your pet companion's anxieties.
Our Veterinary Behaviourist will guide you through effective techniques that are simple to understand to enable your pet to overcome any specific concerns there may be. Common problems that we usually deal with include aggression, fear, separation anxiety, inappropriate toileting and aggressive possessive behaviour over food, treats, toys, objects, space, and/or humans.
During the consultation, our Veterinary Behaviourist will get to know your pet and collect detailed history. ‘Hands on’ time will be spent on demonstrating how to implement the recommendations written on detailed report.
All treatment recommendations use positive reinforcement methods to facilitate the development and maintenance of acceptable behaviours. Our Veterinary Behaviourist has extensively studied various aspects of mental health and welfare in animals staying up to date on the latest proven treatments that are available.
Initial consultations run for 2 - 2.5 hours for dogs, and 1 - 1.5 hours for cats.
